Meet the Team
Dr. Leslie Hargis chose the dental field as it is “the perfect balance of serving others, art, and science.” Dr. Gerald Hargis has been practicing dentistry in downtown Burlington, NC since 1979. Leslie is thrilled to carry on the family practice and share this professional experience working alongside him.
Dr. Leslie is a native of Burlington, NC. In 2010, she graduated from UNC’s Dental Hygiene program. She continued her studies at the UNC School of Dentistry, graduating in 2017 with her Doctorate in Dental Science.
In 2018 she completed a Geriatric Fellowship, which was a collaborative research project between the UNC schools of medicine and dentistry based around delivering advanced care planning and advanced directives to patients and families. Dr. Leslie is especially passionate about treating the geriatric population as there is great treatment need in this area.
When she isn’t working, Dr. Leslie enjoys traveling with her high school sweetheart and husband of 12 years, Ryan. They have two children together with which they love spending time. Dr. Hargis is very passionate in her faith, nature, and her love for animals. She gives all glory and thanks to God and looks forward to a long journey ahead at Hargis Family Dentistry!
Dr. Valerie is a proud native of our beautiful state of North Carolina. She chose to pursue dentistry because of its ability to impact a patient’s health and self-confidence all in a single visit. ‘I’m blessed that dentistry has opened countless doors for me. It has allowed me to create personal and meaningful relationships with my patients. It also allows me to help solve issues that affect their quality of life, while building back their self-confidence. I enjoy creating a smile that my patients are proud of, while having fun doing it!’
She graduated from James Madison University with a bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences & Disorders; she then spent two years teaching young adults with autism. After this, she returned to school to pursue a career in dentistry at the UNC School of Dentistry graduating with her Doctorate in Dental Surgery.
Dr. Valerie is newly engaged to her fiancé Bob and when she’s not practicing dentistry, they love to travel abroad, explore our beautiful state of North Carolina and eats lots of delicious food!

Give our front desk a call and we will be happy to call your insurance company for you and verify all the details of what coverage you have prior to your first appointment, so you know what exact costs will be, if any!
