Implants
You’re not alone — missing teeth can affect more than your appearance. It can change the way you eat, speak, and even how you feel about yourself.
That’s why at Hargis Family Dentistry, we believe you deserve more than a quick fix. You deserve a solution that:
✅ Looks and feels like your natural teeth
✅ Protects your jawbone from shrinking
✅ Lasts for years with proper care
✅ Gives you back your freedom to smile, laugh, and eat without worry
Dental implants are today’s gold standard for replacing missing teeth — strong, stable, and natural‑looking. Whether you need a single tooth replaced, a bridge supported, or dentures securely anchored, implants can transform your daily life.
And here’s the truth: The sooner you act, the better the outcome. Waiting can lead to more bone loss and limit your treatment options.

Before development of dental implants, dentures were the only alternative to replacing a missing tooth or teeth.
Implants are titanium structures that are placed in the area of the tooth normally occupied by the root. Implants are anchored to the jawbone and act as a foundation for an artificial tooth single crown or a permanent bridge. In some cases, implants can be used to attach dentures making the dentures removable or fixed (only removable by dental professionals). These are called hybrid over dentures.
Not everyone is a candidate for a dental implant, however. For a successful implant to take hold, a candidate must have proper bone density and have a strong immune system. A bone graft can also be performed by the oral surgeon if needed. In all cases, dental implants require strict oral hygiene.
Implants are so well designed that they mimic the look and feel of natural teeth. Implants are usually made of a synthetic yet biocompatible material like metal or ceramic.
Surgery is necessary to prepare the area for an implant and place the implant in the mouth. Following the procedure, a period of time is required for the implant to take hold and for bone tissue to build up and anchor the device. In some cases, metal posts are inserted into the implant during a follow-up procedure to connect the tooth.
Our office refers to an oral surgeon for the implant placement surgery, then we will create and deliver the implant crown itself after several months of healing. Since implants require surgery, patients are administered anesthesia and, if necessary, antibiotics to stave off infection following the procedure.
Like any restoration, implants require diligent oral hygiene and proper care to ensure they last a long time.

Dental implants are titanium posts surgically placed into the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth, providing a stable foundation for a crown, bridge, or denture. Patients seeking dental implants in Burlington, NC will find that the implant fuses with the surrounding bone over time — a process called osseointegration — creating a permanent, natural-looking result.
At Hargis Family Dentistry, our team provides implant specialist-level care right here in Burlington, NC, handling the consultation, placement planning, and restoration in one familiar practice. This means fewer appointments and a more seamless experience from start to finish.
Good candidates for dental implants typically have adequate jawbone density, healthy gums, and no uncontrolled systemic conditions. If bone loss has occurred, a bone graft may be performed beforehand to prepare the site — our team will assess your eligibility during your consultation.
A dental implant crown is the visible tooth-shaped restoration that attaches to the implant post via an abutment, while a regular crown caps an existing natural tooth. It is custom-made to match the shape, size, and color of your surrounding teeth for a completely natural appearance.
Yes — our office functions as a comprehensive implant center for patients across Burlington, NC, and nearby areas, coordinating every phase of treatment from initial exam and X-rays through final crown placement. You will not need to be referred to a separate surgical facility for most cases.
With proper oral hygiene and regular dental checkups, dental implants can last a lifetime — making them the longest-lasting tooth replacement option available. The crown attached to the implant may need to be replaced after 10 to 15 years due to normal wear.
A dental implant crown should be cared for just like a natural tooth — brushing twice daily, flossing around the implant, and attending regular cleanings. Avoiding excessive biting force on hard objects will help protect the crown and extend its lifespan.
Coverage varies by plan, but our team files all insurances except Medicaid — even if we are not in network — and will verify your benefits before your first appointment so you know exactly what to expect. We are happy to walk you through your coverage and available payment options during your consultation.
